Upcoming Benefit Show -- Don't Miss It!

Poster Concept & Design by Noelle Evans

Mutual Aid Film has teamed up with the folks at local Rochester, NY gem, Bernunzio Uptown Music. Together we are hosting a benefit show to raise funds for Gaia Ansapit, Eddy Jonas' grassroots project in Anse à Pitre, Haiti for reforestation and community gardens.

Anse à Pitre exists on the south coast of Haiti, it's backyard is a desolate, bedrock desert called the Bukara (literally "wasteland" in Creole).  That space used to be rainforest.

Eddy and his team are growing and planting various trees. He began with a family of tropical cedars, sturdy trees that can withstand high winds -- useful during hurricane season. His saplings have a lot of forces against them, but each successful planting brings hope for the future generations.

If Gaia Ansapit is given the opportunity, it can grow into a movement for economic self-sufficiency, environmental restoration, and ready access to fresh foods for the population of Anse à Pitre and nearby villages. Instead of cutting down trees to make charcoal to sell, people could be paid to plant trees. It is possible, and it will take work and support to get there.

Request a Postcard Invitation: Artist: Laura L. Jones.

The Benefit will feature a photo booth; two Mutual Aid Film shorts; and live music from Rochester's Ukulele Orchestra, Andrew Alden, and local bands: Howlo, Passive Aggressives Anonymous, and PAXTOR. At 8:00, Rayla MeShawn will facilitate an introductory Afro dance mini-workshop that will stir your soul-strings.

There will be free food provided by Natural Oasis, and a homestyle Nigerian dish by the up-and-coming Philomena. If you haven't tried Philomena's cooking at the Public Market, you're in for a wonderful treat! Both she and Natural Oasis have some of the most nutritionally dense & delicious cuisine in Rochester.

Nourish your spirit, your body, your mind.

If that wasn't enough for you, there will also be raffle prizes. Tickets are now on sale at Bernunzio Uptown Music. Tickets are $1 each or you can purchase 6 for $5.

There are four chances to win, including: 2 baskets of direct trade Haitian coffee, a ukulele package with tuner, and a Hohner guitar with pickup.

The festivities will take place Monday evening from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, December 15th, 2014 at Bernunzio Uptown Music in Rochester, NY. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 for entry. All are welcome.

Celebrate a great cause!
